Consumer Information

Raw milk in North Dakota is sold directly from the producer to you — it's not inspected, certified, or pasteurized. You and the producer share responsibility for safe handling. See the full law and overview.

Before you buy

  • Ask the producer about their animal health, testing, milking and cooling procedures.
  • Inspect the operation if possible. Buy from a producer you trust.
  • Bring a cooler. Transport milk cold and refrigerate it as soon as you get home.
  • Start with small amounts to let your body adjust — particularly if you've only ever had pasteurized milk.
