Key reminders for producers

  • Label all products as "raw milk" or "made with raw milk".
  • Sell only directly to the end consumer, within North Dakota. No wholesale, no retail, no donation.
  • Most farm liability policies will NOT cover raw milk sales — talk to your insurance agent.
  • Test animals for diseases (Brucellosis, Tuberculosis, Johnes', Q-Fever, Toxoplasmosis, CAE/OPP, CL) and keep tested animals separate from untested ones.
  • Follow the basic milking procedure: clean udder, strip teats, milk, dip teats, filter and cool quickly, transport cold.
  • Educate every customer on safe transport and storage of farm fresh milk.
